Chapada dos GuimarãesThe town of Chapada is located ca. 70 km north of Cuiabá and has about 16,000 inhabitants. Chapada dos Guimarães is a rocky high plain located 836 m above sea level. Ravines, mesas, caves, rivers and waterfalls are part of this impressive landscape.
At nearly nearly 96 m, "Véu da Noiva" is the highest waterfall in the region. Another attraction is the look-out tower Mirante, from which you get a magnificent view over the landscape. In the recreation area of Salgadeira several rivers flow together, and small waterfalls form basins in which one can take a bath. Among the vegetation are the Jacaranda tree and multi-coloured orchids and lilies. Other spots of colour are birds such as toucans and macaws. On the way to Chapada dos Guimarães you pass the "Portal do Inferno" (gate of hell), with its 100-m-deep abyss. The rock formations are similar to American canyons.
You visit Santa Anna dos Sacramentos, a 200-year-old chapel, the last monument in the region that is left from the Baroque. Located at the very centre of South America, this region was crossed by the Paleo Indians during their migration through South America, as well-known archaeological findings confirm. These majestic rock formations are the source of many different rivers in the region. A trip to Chapada dos Guimarães is bookable at any time as a follow-up to one of our Pantanal tours.
