Pousada Canto do Arancuã

This accommodation opened in June 2005 and is located in the area of a former fazenda. The current owners favour an ecologically sound, gentle tourism; it offers more convenience than many other lodges in the Pantanal. This pousada has a gorgeous environment (forest, lakes, rivers, cerrado) and offers many ways of exploring the flora and fauna of the Pantanal.


Installation:
22 generously furnished, large rooms with a bathroom and air conditioning (no fan), among these 1 suite for up to two persons with a hot tub, a minibar and TV. The lodge has a very nice swimming pool (including a kids' basin), a restaurant offering the typical cooking of the Pantaneiros, an auditorium, a playing room and equipment for anglers. There is also an outdoor grill, on which the owner prepares typical churrascos for larger groups on occasion.

Outings:
From this lodge many different types of tours are possible: by motor boat or canoe, on horseback, on foot or by bike; fishing tours are offered as well. There is also a small carriage available.

1st day: Cuiabá – Pantanal (138 km)

After arrival in Cuiabá our English speaking guide welcomes you, and your drive into the Pantanal through Poconé on the Transpantaneira begins. Upon arrival in Poconé you first have lunch with a typically Brazilian family (depending on arrival time). Afterwards drive to your first accommodation. You will be able to see the first interesting animal and plant species along the Transpantaneira. Depending on arrival time, short stops to watch and photograph the animals will be made. After arrival at the pousada you move into your room and have the opportunity to take a nice, long shower. Later that day you can take your first tours, if you feel up to it. If not, you can simply get some rest by the swimming pool. After dinner there will be a nighttime safari to track nocturnal animals.

2nd day: Pantanal

After breakfast excursion to the nearby river and into the surroundings of the pousada to watch the local flora and fauna. A horseback-riding tour is possible as well. After lunch drive on the Transpantaneira to the Araras lodge. From here you walk through roughly 2 km of beautiful gallery forest on wooden bridges. Your destination is a look-out tower from which you get a stunning view over the Pantanal. If you are lucky you will get to see some howler monkeys. Return to the lodge for dinner. Upon request you can go on another tour to track nocturnal animals after dinner.


3rd day: Pantanal

Sunrise tour before breakfast to witness the awakening of the animal world of the Pantanal, a unique spectacle that you should not miss. After breakfast hike in the surroundings of the pousada to observe the flora and fauna. A horseback-riding tour is possible as well, as you prefer. After lunch you go on a boat tour on the Rio Clarinho. After dinner night tour with torches (flashlights) to watch nocturnal animals such as caimans, owls, etc.


4th day: Pantanal - Cuiabá

After breakfast transfer to the airport in Cuiabá (depending on departure time). In case of a later flight, you can go on another hike or horseback ride before leaving.
