Jaguar-Eco-LodgeTranspantaneira km-point 110, near Porto Jofre (bookable from May to November/early December)
In the time from June to October this lodge is the most likely spot to see a free-living jaguar, in June 2008 other customers of ours were able to catch a glimpse of a cougar and an ocelot on an excursion from the Jaguar-Eco-Lodge. Near the lodge there is a population of about 20 – 30 hyacinth macaws that stay there all year and can best be watched in the early morning or the late afternoon hours. From the lodge we go by car to Porto Jofre, the end of the Transpantaneira, from where you can go on a boat tour to track jaguars.
Description/featuresThe lodge is located in a nature reserve of the Pantanal that is roughly 1200 hectares wide and situated right by the Transpantaneira, km-point 110. It is the last lodge before the end of the Transpantaneira in Porto Jofre. The proprietor of this lodge is a native from Poconé. Until 1999 it used to be a cattle farm typical of the Pantanal, ever since it has been used exclusively for ecological tourism. This simple lodge has 9 rooms (two more will be added before the year is out), all rooms have air conditioning, bathroom, mosquito nets, hairdryer, a hammock and, obviously, beds. For protection from mosquitoes, fly screens are mounted to the windows. All rooms were freshly renovated last year. Most of the electricity is supplied through a solar plant, however, warm water is not always available. The rest of the power comes from a generator, which is turned off at night. The lodge does not feature a swimming pool, which does not matter much since the main emphasis will be on watching animals. In a small restaurant you can savour the indigenous cuisine and enjoy Brazilian hospitality. Beverages can be purchased at the lodge. Souvenirs and items of everyday use can be bought at the souvenir shop. The Jaguar-Eco-Lodge is an ideal starting point for boat tours in Porto Jofre. From here you go on jaguar safaris and watch animals from the boat.
Itinerary:This lodge is bookable only in conjunction with the itineraries of Tour 1, Tour 6, Tour 7 and Tour 9. However, we can tailor an itinerary for you to fit your individual wishes. Prices on request.
For this lodge we recommend a stay of 2 nights (longer on demand). During this stay there is scheduled a day trip by boat from/to Porto Jofre, where you will first go by car (about 40 km). The focus will be on the boat tour to track animals. Be advised that jaguars often roam the vicinity of the lodge, which is why you should never leave the enclosed area on your own (without expert company).
Particularly in the early morning and late afternoon hours we invite you to watch a population of hyacinth macaws in the vicinity of the lodge. By day we also offer hikes in the nearby gallery forest or along the Transpantaneira, of course always supervised by a guide. There are no horses at this lodge.
