Tour 1.1: Many crocodiles but no tears5 days/4 nights from/to Cuiabá (conductible all year round) - print![]() On this journey you will get to know various ecosystems. You will change your accommodations three times in order to experience the diverse landscapes and return from the pantanal with a wast amount of new impressions and experiences – and of course with lots of “crocodiles” (which are refered to as “alligators” or “caimans” by experts). Program sequence:1st day: Cuiabá - Pousada Rio ClaroPick up from the airport in Cuiabá by your travel guide. Ride of about 100 km to Poconé on tarmac roads. Depending on your time of arrival a meal with a typical Brazilian family in Poconé is scheduled for you to enjoy the local matogronesian cuisine. Following a 45 km ride along the Transpantaneira with numerous stops for observation of the flora and fauna at the Transpantaneira, arrival at the Pousada Rio Claro, 3 km off the Transpantaneira at the riverbank of the Rio Claro. In the late afternoon you will perform a boat trip in order to trace miscellaneous birds and howler monkeys. Night safari with flashlights and floodlight to watch nocturnal animals after lunch.
2nd day: Pousada Rio ClaroDuring a walking-tour after breakfast you will get an overview over the variety of the vegetation as well as bird and plant life. You will search for the nests of the Jabiru (June to September) and the blue Hyacintara and other species of birds. After the siesta (maybe in a hammock) you will have horse ride, one of the best ways to get to know the Pantanal region. After supper you will tour again to track caimans and nocturnal animals.3rd day: Pousada Pouso AlegreA boat trip on the Rio Claro before breakfast to watch the awakening of the birds and other animals. After breakfast, drive to the Fazenda Pouso Alegre (half hour drive), a traditional cattle ranch on 9.000 hectare. The Fazenda is very popular for it's macaw groups which populate the area. In the afternoon, horse ride for watching animals. After supper you will again tour to track nocturnal animals.![]() 4th day: Fazenda Santa TerezaAt about 6 o'clock you will start a hiking-trip to watch the sun rising. After breakfast, drive on the Transpantaneira and a 3 km private road to the Fazenda Santa Tereza nearby the river Pixaim. You will push your luck by fishing for piranhas in the river Pixaim in the afternoon. Here you have the biggest chance of seeing the Giant Otter in the wild. After lunch you have the choice of another trip to observer nocturnal animals.5th day: Fazenda Santa Tereza - CuiabáAfter breakfast, drive to Cuiabá or a ride (depending on time of departure). No black clothes since mosquitoes are attracted by black. Sweatshirt, pullover or fleece jacket from June to September are mandatory because it can get severely cold in the evenings. Yellow fever immunizations are strongly recommended.Information:Program modification (e.g. change of order of accommodations) due to weather, atmospheric conditions and especially flight schedule (arrival/departure) possible. In the months between December and March it could be possible that the Pousada Pouso Alegre and the Fazenda Santa Tereza are closed because of water levels.
