Tour 1.3: Fazenda Barrinhas - Pousada Rio Claro - Transpantaneira5 days/4 nights from/to Cuiabá or6 days/5 nights with an optional extension to Chapada dos Guimarães at least 2 persons (May until November)
Have you always wanted to get to know life on a fazenda? The fazenda Barrinhas is located at the centre of the Pantanal, far from civilisation and mainstream tourism along the Transpantaneira. From the Transpantaneira this fazenda can only be reached by boat (in about 10 minutes). The visitor gets an impression of how the indigenous people live on their fazendas. The main house of the fazenda has two simple rooms with a fan and bathroom available to guests; a maximum of 4 people at a time can be accommodated. Here you enjoy the hospitality of the native population and savour the regional cuisine of the Mato Grosso, for bigger groups a typically Brazilian churrasco can be arranged (day trips without overnight stay are possible as well). Here you can still find and experience the original life of the fazendeiros in the Mato Grosso.
1st day: Cuiabá - Transpantaneira - Fazenda BarrinhasAfter arrival at the airport in Cuiabá you will be picked up by our tour guide. Drive to Poconé (100 km), the last town before the Pantanal. After arrival in Poconé you have lunch with a typically Brazilian family (depending on time of arrival at the airport). After lunch you drive along the Transpantaneira as far as milestone 50 with several stops to watch and photograph the flora and fauna along the Transpantaneira.The transfer to the fazenda will take place in a simple boat on Rio Claro (about 10 minutes’ ride), further boat tours on Rio Claro are an option. Here you can watch a wide variety of birds: halcyons (Chloroceryle), Agami herons (Agamia agami), fork-tailed flycatchers (Tyrannus savana), blue-thoroated piping guans (Aburria pipile), toco toucans (Ramphastos toco) and giant otters. Nearby there is a gallery forest, the home of many other bird species such as blue-crowned trogons (Trogon curucui), rufous-tailed jacamars (Galbula ruficauda), yellow-collared macaws (Ara auricollis), rufous horneros (Furnarius rufus commersoni), lineated woodpeckers (Dryocopus lineatus) and woodcreepers (Dendrocolaptidae). Enjoy the sunset and the unique starlit sky, far from civilisation, deep inside the Pantanal.
2nd day: Fazenda BarrinhasIn the early morning you set out on a sunrise tour and savour the awakening of the flora and fauna of the Pantanal, an unforgettable natural spectacle that you shouldn’t pass up. In the evening and early morning you can let the unique starry sky enchant you. Just dreaming, relaxing, letting go, without the annoying noises of civilisation. After breakfast you go on an extensive horseback ride in the environment of the fazenda to watch the flora and fauna. A very nice experience and adventure. Lunch, then rest period. After siesta you go on a little boat tour on Rio Claro (in a simple boat). Return to the fazenda. After dinner you go stalking nocturnal animals, accompanied by your guide and equipped with flashlights and torches.
3rd day: Fazenda Barrinhas - Pousada Rio ClaroAfter breakfast you go by boat from the fazenda Barrinhas to the pousada Rio Claro accompanied by a boatman. Your personal tour guide will take your luggage in the vehicle to the pousada Rio Claro and meet you there. After arrival at the pousada Rio Claro assignment of rooms and opportunity to freshen up. Afterwards the first tours are offered, however, you may as well simply relax by the pool. After lunch you go on an extensive horseback ride on the grounds of the former fazenda. After dinner there will be another nighttime safari to track nocturnal animals.
4th day: Pousada Rio ClaroAt 5 am sunrise tour. Experience the awakening of the flora and fauna in the Pantanal, a unique natural spectacle you shouldn’t pass up. After breakfast you go on an extensive horseback ride in the environment of the lodge to watch the flora and fauna from a different perspective. Afterwards return to the lodge and lunch. In the afternoon you take a horse riding tour or trekking tour through the nearby gallery forest. Then return to the lodge, dinner and another nighttime safari to track nocturnal animals.5th day: Pousada Rio Claro - CuiabáAfter breakfast transfer to the airport in Cuiabá or further excursions until departure, depending on flight schedules.
Optional extension:1st to 4th day as described above.5th day: Chapada dos GuimarãesAfter breakfast you say goodbye to the Pantanal and go to Chapada, a completely different kind of landscape shaped by rocky mesas, little rivers and waterfalls. At the top of the high plain, the Cidade de Pedra, we watch the sunset. You spend the night in the small colonial town of Chapada dos Guimarães, at the Hotel Turismo.
During a hike through the highlands you get the opportunity to take a bath in one of the many waterfalls. Visit to the cave of Casa de Pedra (with an underground river), view from Morro de São Jerônimo (836 m), the highest waterfall in the Véu de Noiva region with a height of 96 m plunging down into a majestic canyon. Dinner at a local restaurant in Chapada dos Guimarães. 6th day: Chapada dos Guimarães – CuiabáAfter breakfast visit to the national park with its many waterfalls. The highest and most well-known, Véu de Noiva (bride’s veil) is 96 m high. You get the opportunity to take a refreshing bath, before going back to Cuiabá to catch your afternoon flight. Drive back to Cuiabá depending on departure time, if necessary lunch in Chapada dos Guimarães at a local restaurant.
