Tour 2: Chapada dos Guimarães - Fazenda Carandá - Curicaca lodge6 days/5 nights
Day 1 to Day 2 (1 night):Our travel guide picks you up at the airport in Cuiabá; then drive in an air-conditioned minivan or car to Chapada dos Guimarães. Here you spend one night at the Hotel Turismo. The Hotel Turismo is located in downtown Chapada and has 30 rooms - plus a swimming pool. All rooms with bathroom/shower, air conditioning, TV, minibar; sparsely furnished, but clean and practical.
Lunch in Chapada dos Guimarães at a local restaurant, followed by a visit to the national park. During the hike through the highlands, one has the opportunity to take a bath under one of the many waterfalls. Visit to the cave of "Casa de Pedra" (with an underground river), view from Morro de São Jerônimo; visit to the highest waterfall in the region: Véu de Noiva – with a height of 96 m – which falls into a majestic canyon (the national park is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays). Day 2 to Day 4 (2 overnight stays): Fazenda Carandá (Pantanal)After breakfast drive from Chapada dos Guimarães to Poconé in the air-conditioned vehicle (about 170 km). Here you will eat lunch with a typically Brazilian family. Transfer by airplane to the Fazenda Carandá (ca. 15 minutes' flight; comes at an extra charge).
These accommodations do not offer any luxury; however, the simplicity of the fazenda is more than compensated for by the beautiful surroundings and the hospitality of our hosts. This establishment consists of 7 comfortably-furnished rooms. All rooms are simple, but clean and practical; they have a bathroom with shower and a fan, as well as a wardrobe and storage compartments. Let your hosts enchant you with the local cooking; enjoy the typical regional cuisine of the Pantaneiros.
Here you can experience life on a fazenda firsthand: you go on extended horseback-riding trips or trekking tours to watch the local flora and fauna – but also on the nearby lake the program features smaller-scale boat tours and fishing trips. Would you like to see how beef cattle are branded and herded? You can experience that, too. All tours are conducted individually, based on your requests. Our travel guides are available to you 24 hours a day. Day 4 to Day 6 (2 overnights): Fazenda Carandá– Poconé - Curicaca lodgeAfter breakfast you say goodbye to the Fazenda Carandá and go by airplane to Poconé. Here you can freshen up a bit; later you switch vehicles and proceed on the Transpantaneira to the Curicaca lodge. After 25 km (followed by another 3 km of privately-owned roadway), we reach the Curicaca lodge. The place was newly renovated in 2008 and has 10 rooms. All rooms are equipped with a fan and a bathroom/shower. The pousada also has a very nice swimming pool.
From the pousada you can start various tours through the Pantanal; by boat, on canal trips (in a canoe or paddle boat) or on foot, to the nearby forest. Yet also tours along the Transpantaneira are possible – to get to know the diverse flora und fauna in this area of the Pantanal. The lodge is one of the best spots for bird lovers, but you can also see a lot of other animals in this reserve region of the Pantanal. Day 6: Pantanal – CuiabáAfter breakfast (depending on departure time) drive to the airport in Cuiabá. If your flight (as is typical) does not leave from Cuiabá until 05:15 pm, additional tours are conducted in the late morning, on horseback or on foot. In this case lunch at the pousada, followed by the drive to the airport.
