Tour 6.1: Pantanal - wild animals - feelings of security

7 days/6 nights from Cuiabá

This programme focuses on the different seasons in Pantanal; its dynamics are adjusted according to different months and times of year. In practice, that means that you can always stay where there is most to be seen. Your accommodation will change three times. That way, you can see the disparate landscapes and make an optimum of experiences in Pantanal throughout the year. Another highlight is the highland of Chapada Guimarães with its majestic rock formations, caves, grottos and countless waterfalls. The tours include walks through the natural beauty of Pantanal on foot, on horseback, by boat and, in parts, by car. You will be accompanied by an educated and competent travel guide, who will be exclusively at your disposal 24 hours a day.

Then a drive of about 17 km to your first accommodation, the Pousada Piuval. Allocation of rooms. You can refresh yourself a bit, and later, there is the possibility of going on a small boat tour on the nearby Piuval lake and going horseback riding. After dinner, there will be a night-time safari to watch nocturnal animals. Overnight stay at Pousada Piuval.

2nd day: Pousada Piuval – Jaguar-Eco-Lodge

At around 5 o’clock in the morning, you will go on a sunrise tour to see the morning ritual of the birds before sunrise. Pantanal awakes and the day begins, a stunning spectacle of nature. After breakfast, a hike will give you a first impression of the variety of the local vegetation, birds and animals. Here you will get the opportunity to watch the nests of the Jabiru stork or the blue Hyazinthara, to name only two of the many bird species. A horseback ride is one of the best ways of exploring Pantanal.

After lunch, a car will take you to the Jaguar-Eco-Lodge (approx. 104 km) on the Transpantaneira. On the road, you will make several stops to watch and take pictures of the animals along the Transpantaneira. Upon arrival allocation of rooms. At night, there will be another nighttime safari to watch nocturnal animals. With a bit of luck, you will be able to watch a population of Hyacinth araras, which have been spotted near this lodge for many years.

3rd day: Jaguar safari from Porto Jofre (full-day excursion)

You get up at 5 o’clock. Drive to Porto Jofre, the terminal of the Transpantaneira. After your arrival, you will have breakfast here. Then you will embark on a five-hour boat tour taking you deep into the Cerrado, into untouched nature in the area of the rivers Rio Tres Irmãos, Rio São Lourenço and Rio Piquiri, to track jaguars. If you have already seen a jaguar, your guide will do what he can to track other animals for you, such as giant otters, ant-eaters, monkeys and all kinds of bird species. At early noon return by boat to Porto Jofre, where your lunch will be a picnic. After lunch, there will be another boat tour to track jaguars, but also other interesting animal species located in this area. Towards 16:30 pm return to Jaguar-Eco-Lodge. Dinner and stop for the night at Jaguar-Eco-Lodge. Your best chances of seeing a jaguar are in the months from June to late November.

4th to 6th day: Pousada Rio Claro

After breakfast ride on the Transpantaneira to the last lodge in Pantanal. Even on the side of the Transpantaneira you will be able to see the first animal and plant species. Depending on schedule, there will be short stops to watch and photograph the animals. After your arrival at Pousada Rio Claro, you can move to your rooms and freshen up. Afterwards, you can join more tours, depending on your stamina. Or if you want, you can simply relax by the pool.

As a follow-up to that, you can go on a boat trip on the river watching birds, reptiles and other animals living by and in the river. While the sun goes down, you will be fishing piranhas. Return to the lodge and dinner. On request, you can go on another tour at night, tracking caimans and other nocturnal animals. On the following day, further trips on horseback, by boat and on foot will be on the schedule. In the afternoon of the 5th day, a car will take you to the region, where you can watch a lot of animals. You will walk for about two kilometres through untouched gallery forests, experiencing the singular beauty of Pantanal from a bird’s eye view. After that return to the lodge, dinner and another night-time safari to track nocturnal animals.
