Excursions and inspections

Corcovado
Rio is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and the beauty comes from its natural tropical environment where mountains, forest, beaches, lagoons, vegetation and the South Atlantic blend to form one dramatic back-drop. Copacabana and Ipanema are among the famous beaches of the world. Corcovado Mountain with its statue of Christ the Redeemer, dominates much of the skyline, soaring 710 meters (2300 feet) above the city. Sugar Loaf Mountain, 395 meters high, guards the entrance to the Guanabara bay. There is the Tijuca Forest, the largest urban forest in the world and Rio is no cultural backwater, the city boasts its own highly rated ballet, opera and theatre companies, orchestras and soloists as well as a number of museums and galleries. Soccer is the main spectator sport with crowds of 100,000 or more not unusual for the major games at the Maracana Stadium. The most famous of all the Brazilian carnival celebrations is the one in Rio and it is one of the few legends which lives up to its billing. Carnival is a mixture of street parades, Carnival balls and the parade of the top samba schools.
